In this video, Lene Terslev, PhD first takes us through how to identify the salivary gland by using two major muscle landmarks; digastric and the mylohyoid muscles. From this you will be able to identify the three major salivary glands.
The parotid gland is located near the ear, the submandibularis gland is located under the mandibulae bone and finally, the sublingualis gland is located under the tongue. When conducting ultrasound scanning, the parotid gland and the submandibularis gland are favoured to use to diagnose any Salivary Gland Diseases. This is because the the sublingual gland is very small and therefore makes it quite difficult to identify and assess changes.
