How to Ultrasound The Shoulder - Infraspinatus Muscle

Infraspinatus Ultrasound

Watch this video by Mark Maybury, a Research Physiotherapist and Sonographer, perform a live ultrasound demonstration of a shoulder and how to identify the posterior infraspinatus.

Mark will discuss important scanning techniques such as probe positioning and explains how to identify the posterior infraspinatus and other important tendons in the shoulder.

The infraspinatus muscle is a part of the rotator cuff and is responsible for shoulder stability and external rotation. The muscle is attached in a medial direction to the infraspinous fossa of the scapula and positioned laterally in the middle facet of the greater tubercle of the humerus.

Ultrasound evaluation of the infraspinatus muscle will allow you to quickly diagnosis any tears within the joint. The high-quality ultrasound scan provides a clear image of the infraspinatus muscle and will allow you to promptly determine a tear. View the infraspinatus ultrasound video here.
