How To Ultrasound A Wrist

Wrist Ultrasound

This video provides a brief overview of a wrist ultrasound performed by Mark Maybury, a Research Physiotherapist and Sonographer.

The demo focuses on the six extensor compartments of the wrist and explains how to perform an examination using a large footprint probe. However, Mark states that a small footprint probe such as the hockey stick probe would be more beneficial for the medical professional to analyse the wrist.

The patient's forearm rests in a mid-supinated position and the probe is placed on the radial aspect. This is where the first extensor compartment of the wrist can be found. Mark continues to name tendons and components within this extensor compartment.

The rest of the video follows a similar manner, in which Mark teaches you to find each extensor compartment of the wrist, while also explaining how to position your probe and useful identifiers on the ultrasound image. View the entire video demonstration here.
