How To Ultrasound of Wrist Carpus

Video Demonstration

Mark Maybury, Consultant Research Physiotherapist Sonographer, looks at the carpal bones of the wrist and some of the things you can see around the carpal bones on Ultrasound. Mark goes on to say that this may be of particular interest to Rheumatologists or anyone with an interest in Rheumatology.

With the patients, hand positioned pronated on the table Mark places his probe on the back of the wrist in a long axis orientation, in line with the patients middle finger.

Mark then cuts to the ultrasound screen to look at what we can see from this position. On the right-hand side of the screen, Mark points out the radius, capitate and the lunate. From a more radial orientation, you can see the scaphoid and from an ulna orientation, you can see the lunate.
